Iran’s Defence Ministry tested the country’s own-made long-range surface-to-air missile known as the Bavar-373 during large-scale military exercises in Semnan on Thursday.

The military exercises, codenamed ‘Modafean Aseman Velayat’ (‘The Defenders of Velayat Skies’), are joint exercises organised by the Iranian army and the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps).

Reports in Iran suggest that the Bavar-373 surface-to-air defence system hit its training target, in this case, an airborne drone, on its first attempt.

The Bavar-373 is an Iranian long-range road-mobile surface-to-air missile system. Iran describes it as their equivalent of the Russian S-300 missile system.

It is manufactured by the Iranian Defence Ministry in cooperation with help from local contractors, manufacturers, and universities.
