A simulation of a major chemical warfare attack has been carried out in Jerusalem.

The exercise involved the admission and treatment of large numbers of chemical warfare ‘victims’.

During the exercise, the ‘victims’ of the simulated attack were rushed to the Shaare Zedek Hospital in the city.

A doctor at the hospital explained part of the exercise.

SOUNDBITE: (English)
“The soldiers are being cleared and prepared for treatment against chemical warfare.”
SUPER CAPTION: Dr. Ilan Gur, Commander of the Israeli Defence Force Home Front Command

The exercise was conducted in collaboration with the Israeli Defence Force Home Front Command, Medical Corps and the Ministry of Health.

During the Gulf War, most Israelis were given gas masks after Saddam Hussein threatened to attack the country with chemical weapons.
